Glider field Berlinchen was founded in 1956 just 2.5 kilometer northeast of air base Wittstock
In spite of the restrictions imposed by the East German government and the nearby Soviet air base the glider club continued to flourish.
The gliderfield was closed by the government in 1979 however
The glider club was reestablished a few days before Christmas 1989, and the first flights were made in spring of 1990
A second hangar was built in 1991, followed by a workshop in 1993
It remains an active glider field to this day.
