Runway: flying field - 770x500m - grass

Chaumont airfield (also known as Chaumont Hill Aerodrome) was a World War I airfield east of Chaumont, 225 kilometers east-southeast of Paris. It consisted of a grass flying field, 4 aircraft hangars, some barracks and workshops. From 15 November 1917 until 14 december 1917, the 91st Aero Squadron (observation) of the Air Service of the U.S. Army was based at the airfield. Later, it was the base for 85th Aero Squadron (observation, 30 Sep - 4 Nov 1918), 1st pursuit Wing (interceptors, 26 September – 11 November 1918), and the 99th Aero Squadron (also tasked with observation, from December 1918). After the war, the airfield was returned to farmland.

Although Wikipedia calls the airfield Chaumont-sur-Aire (which is the name of a village 90 kilometers to the north), the legend clearly calls it Chaumont-Hill N°402, it's correct name. This drawing was made of the airfield on 11 November 1918 (Wikipedia).

The location of the airfield in 2001. Its contours have hardly changed, it is very easy to recognise in Google Earth.
