Kamenets air field (Bulgarian: летище Каменец or Авиобаза Каменец, English: Kamenets Air Base, also written as Kamenetz, ICAO: n/a) is an airfield 150 kilometer northeast of Sofia.
The airfield was first used by the flying cadet of the 2nd Training Air Regiment class of 1955, using Yak-11, Yak-17 and Yak-23 aircraft. At the end of 1956 a second training regiment formed at the base to train instructors for the Mig-15.
Training shifted towards the MiG-17 in 1963.
In December 1984 the first squadron converted to the MiG-21PFM/-UM and in 1986 the second squadron converted from MiG-15/-17 to the Czechoslovak L-39ZA. In 1992 the first squadron also reequipped with L-39s. As of 1994 the base has been known as the 12th Training Air Base, operating solely with the L-39 trainer. In 2000 revised insights about training (as well as the need to refurbish Bulgarian Air Force MiG-29 Fulcrums) meant that the L-39s were distributed over front line units. They were returned to Kamenets in 2003, but subsequent budget reductions for the armed forces meant that all flying units were transferred to the Air Force Academy "Benkovski" at Dolna Mitropoliya AB in 2006. The airbase has been abandoned since.
