The Panevežys Highway Strip (possibly called the Šilaičiai or Šilagalys Highway strip) was an emergency (wartime) airfield 120 kilometers northwest of Vilnius.
The airfield was built into the E67 highway during the Cold War by the Soviet Air Force and served as a backup for Panevežys Air Base. It is not known if it was used during exercises.
After Lithuania became independent in 1990, the airstrip was no longer maintained. It is recognisable from the air however, if you know what to look for. The airstrip has two aircraft parkings, disguised as highway parking areas, one on each side. A possible third platform is located between them east of the highway.
The airstrip was returned to its normal state road use since the end of the Soviet occupation. The northern end became part of the A8/A17 traffic junction.
