Šakiai Highway strip was an emergency (wartime) airfield 155 kilometers west of Vilnius.
The airfield was built during the Cold War by the Soviet Air Force, 5 Kilometers west of Šakiai,.
It featured a 1900m airstrip and a single aircraft parking.
The aircraft parking was disguised as a highway parking area.
It was located on the western end and the south side of the highway.
Unfortunately it is not known if the highway strip was ever used.

No photos or maps of the airfield have been located

After the Baltic states regained independence, the Highway airstrips were no longer maintained.
They were returned to their normal state road use after the end of the Soviet occupation.
It is still recognisable from the air however, if you know what to look for.
